Gwar

A press release issued today makes it clear: Gwar did not die with Dave Brockie, and will in fact carry on as a band — at least with live performances, anyways.

The presser says Gwar’s triumphant return to the stage as the headliner at this year’s Gwar B-Q is on, as planned.

The fifth annual gathering of meat, metal and mayhem will take place on August 16 at Hadad’s Lake in Richmond, Virginia.

“Conflicting reports indicate that Gwar’s performance will be lead by none other than, original recipe Beefcake the Mighty aka Mike Bishop or quite possibly it was misinterpreted as the Colonel’s original chicken recipe,” says the release.

“Other random Facebook posts and tweets confirm that original Scumdog members will descend on the Gwar B-Q to bear witness to a Viking funeral for Oderus Urungus, whose form will burn upon the SS Boat as he makes his journey back to Valhalla and beyond.”

More on that memorial can be found here.

Tickets for the event will be sold exclusively on the Gwar B-Q website.

Tickets will be available in three options: the standard $45 ticket for all-day entry; the deluxe $65 ticket, which also gets you a tee shirt; and the premium $200 ticket that gets you all-day entry to the event, the T-shirt, entry to a pre-show, a VIP Pass for a private Gwafter Party (venue TBA), as well as meet-and-greet signings with Gwar, Ice-T of Body Count, Hatebreed, Bam Margera of Jackass, and a possible chance to appear on stage with Gwar.

Now that these holograms are becoming so prolific, I think Gwar should go that way. If it is good enough for M.J. and Tupac, why not Oderus?
